Buying a Car in Mexico
A car you buy in Mexico comes with a local price and local service.
Picture a couple named Paul, 64, and Gina, 62, who are moving to Mexico City. They plan to keep a car. They ask a simple question: is it lower than at home?
For a Toyota, the answer on 8 October 2026 is that it is a little higher.
| Model | United States | Mexico | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corolla | US$23,300 | US$24,200 | About 4% higher |
| Camry hybrid | US$29,600 | US$34,700 | About 17% higher |
| RAV4 hybrid | US$31,900 | US$36,100 | About 13% higher |
Prices are list prices from Toyota's sites in each country, converted at 18.0 pesos to the dollar. The Mexican price is in pesos: MXN 435,900, MXN 625,600 and MXN 650,300. Some details of what each price includes were not stated on the pages.
Where Mexico is different
Chinese brands sell widely in Mexico. BYD's small electric car, the Dolphin Mini, is listed at MXN 399,800, about US$22,100. A Toyota Corolla is about US$2,100 more. In Mexico, a buyer can choose between them.
In 2026 Mexico began charging a tariff of up to 50 percent on cars from countries without a trade agreement, which includes China. One report says BYD held its prices through the change. BYD's own site is the place to check.
What a mover could weigh
A car you buy in Mexico comes with a local price and local service. Parts and repair prices may also differ from home.
This article is about the sticker, not the whole cost of ownership. Insurance, parking, fuel and the price of a replacement are all separate.
You could…
-
Compare a Mexican list price with your home price for the exact model.
-
Ask a local dealer what the total is with every fee.
-
Test whether a Chinese-made electric car fits your needs and your service area.
